We need you
Miwatj Health are pleased to offer this position as a full time opportunity. Based in Elcho Island in our Galiwin'ku Clinic, you will be working closely with our Aboriginal workforce which is critical to our clients success. You’ll be committed to finding the best way to communicate with our clients and our team in order to provide great care in sometimes uncertain circumstances.
Core aspects of your role will include:
- To work in the acute care program in collaboration with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, medical practitioners and other RNs to provide high quality and evidence based primary health care.
- To provide culturally inclusive health care to the community within agreed procedures and protocols.
- Provide high quality emergency care as per the CARPA Standard Treatment manual and Clinical Procedures manual.
- Facilitate and participate in opportunistic and planned screening activities such as preventative health checks and health promotion activities.
- Manage the process of developing care plans.
- Be familiar with and competent in the use of standard medical equipment, ensure monthly checks are attended and checklist completed.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement.
- Dispense pharmaceutical therapies, including the administration of vaccines, prescribe pharmaceuticals for common conditions and ensure rotation of drugs per expiry dates is done as needed.
- Participate in a duty roster as required, equally with other medical staff.
- Assist in the implementation of quality assurance and other evaluation programs to ensure a higher quality of clinical care, ensure BSL’s equipment is monitored and calibrated daily.
- Maximize the use of computerized patient information and recall system in all client contacts.
- Monitor the cold chain management related to vaccine use and storage.
- Comply with infection control standards, identification of hazards in the work place and education.

A competitive salary of $110,606 - $118,826 per annum (dependent on skills and experience) is available with this full time position.

- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a remote area nurse/primary health care nurse in a clinical situation.
- Minimum qualification as an RN4.
- Eligible for registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse and in possession of a current practicing certificate.
- Interest in the health issues impacting on Aboriginal people in northern Australia.
- Understanding of the principles in primary health care.
- Possess broad nursing experience and utilize clinical skills with confidence.
- Commitment to own professional development and sharing knowledge and skills with work colleagues.
- Current NT drivers licence.
- Possession of CPR and AGV certificates or eligible to obtain them.
- Possession of the mandatory OCHRE card.
