We need you

Miwatj Health is pleased to offer this position a part-time opportunity. Based in our Galiwin'ku Health Centre you will be working closely with our Aboriginal workforce which is critical to our clients success. You’ll be committed to finding the best way to communicate with our clients and our team in order to provide great care in sometimes uncertain circumstances.

You will work in collaboration with the NDIS Operations Manager and work with people in the East Arnhem Region with Disabilities to connect them to resources, support and information in their communities. You will help them to build their knowledge, skills and confidence as well as guide them through the access and planning processes for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Core aspects of your role will include:

  • Engaging with clients in order to explain the NDIS planning and assessment process and the role of the Community Connector and National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
  • Provide access to participants through Miwatj Health NDIS program promotion and conduct needs assessments to determine participant eligibility based on their own choices of support needs, goals and aspirations.
  • Assist participants in completing NDIS plans and in meeting personal development goals such as further education and employment.
  • Identify and establish positive and productive relationships with both clients and community agencies/organisations.
  • Conduct outreach service delivery, community education and assist other agencies in their work with Yolngu clients.

Why Miwatj?

Whether working with a remote healthcare provider is in your bucket list, or something that is tried and tested, we’d love for you to reach out. East Arnhem Land offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of a community where the richness of Yolngu culture is in the air you breathe.

A competitive salary of $53,049 -$57,578 per annum (full time equivalent, dependent on skills and experience) and a comprehensive range of benefits are provided with part-time position.

How do you know if you’re the right fit?

In order to deliver on our mission, we know that a collaborative, supportive team is critical. We’re looking for people who are committed to not only growing their capability, but willing to step in and support other team members and clients. Whilst knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is helpful, what will really see you thrive in our communities is an open mind, willingness to be exposed to culture, and curiosity. Before you reach out and apply, we need you to have:

  • Willingness to participate in formal training relevant to the Disability sector and NDIS Community Connector training.
  • Ability to communicate confidently in a group environment, including mediating family meetings.
  • Knowledge of Yolngu family/clans/kinship structures of the East Arnhem Region.
