We need you 

Miwatj Health are pleased to offer this position as a full time, fixed term opportunity. Based in the Miwatj Health Darwin Office, you will be working closely with our Aboriginal workforce, which is critical to our client's success. You’ll be committed to finding the best way to communicate with our clients and our team in order to provide great care in sometimes uncertain circumstances. 

Core aspects of your role will include: 

  • In collaboration with the public health team coordinators, review TIS program KPIs and identify areas for improvement.  
  • Review and implement new program activities through engagement and collaboration (via phone, Microsoft teams and in person), with community workers in Gove, Gapuwiyak, Galiwinku and Milingimbi. 
  • Undertake literature reviews including grey literature to assess evidence of best practice for delivering public health program outcomes with a focus on health promotion and tobacco control.  
  • Implement a test-and-learn approach to piloting new activities including support for activity work plans for TIS activities 
  • Lead stakeholder engagement to develop Smoke-Free zones, access tobacco sales data, and collaborate with the Cancer Council and the TIS National Best Practice Unit. 
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation officer to assess effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of new activities. 
  • Support the team to develop a TIS program plan for FY 2022-23.  
  • Other duties as required by line manager.

A competitive salary of $87,367 - $91,917 PA pro-rata to fixed term and dependent on skills and experience, is available with this full time, fixed term position.

  • An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination. 
  • An understanding of the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings. 
  • Sound understanding of health promotion principles and social determinants of health in an Aboriginal public health setting.  
  • An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.

  •  Experience of evidence-based project implementation  
  • Experience in undertaking literature reviews and guide evidence-based practice  
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work independently with excellent time management skills.  
  • Demonstrated communication and engagement skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work as a member of team and to facilitate collaborative action.  
  • Desktop research experience and excellent administration skills. 
  • Willingness to travel to the Miwatj East Arnhem region
